Women's day programme organised at Arunodhaya on 14th March 2024.
It was a joyous occasion to celebrate Women's day with the members of Amudha Surabhi Self Help Group Federation (initiated by Arunodhaya). The federation is completing twenty years. The members recalled their twenty years journey remembering their success, challenges and took the oath to continue their journey in defending the rights of women and children.
Arunodhaya initiated Ward level Child Protection Committee in Ward 38, Zone 4, Greater Chennai Corporation. The first meeting of CPC was held on 20th February 2024. It is encouraging to have the presence of all the members and an involved and insightful discussion on the child protection issues in the Ward. An action plan for the next three months was drawn and the Committee decided to meet once in three months.
Arunodhaya is implementing Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Programme in partnership with Omega Health Care Services. As part of this intervention a special health camp for women facilitated by Pen Nalam Hospital was organised on February 4, 2024 in Korukkupet. Screening for cervical and breast cancer was the primary emphasis of the camp. Fifty four women were screened by the team. In order to reach more women we intend to host health camps in other locations.
'Steps to Success' a motivation session for students appearing for board exams was organised by Arunodhaya on 28th January 2024. Eight nine students studying in 10th,11th and 12th standards participated in the training. Ms. Saraswathy from Action DnA interacted with the students on developing confidence, acquiring a positive attitude, time management and physical and mental preparedness to face the exams. Ms Divya and Ms J.C. Mettilda, teachers guided the students on effectively preparing for Mathematics, English and Science subjects and oriented the students on important guidelines to be followed while writing the examinations.
National girl child day celebration was marked by the release of the short film 'Matram'(the change) produced by Arunodhaya social media team. Drawing competition for school children, awareness sessions in schools and interaction with women police were organised as part of the celebration.
Provision kits, mats and bed sheets were distributed to 100 Irula families in Sadayankuppam and Athipet.
Arunodhaya is reaching out to the people affected by the flood in North Chennai.

Happy to join in the 15th anniversary celebration of Advesa trust. It is heartening to see people volunteering to promote reading habit among children. Advesa trust is running a library for underprivileged children in the premises of Jeevodhaya (hospice for terminally ill cancer patients). The children were articulate in sharing their experience and organised the programme effectively. Congrats to Dr Shanthi and her team.
Arunodhaya organised a workshop to hone the skills of children sangam members in Journalism. Twenty five children participated in the workshop held on 28th and 29th September 2023 at Youth hostel, Adyar. Mr. M. Mohan, Director, Vaalu TV, Dr. D Jayasakthivel, Professor, Dept. Of journalism, University of Madras and Mr. R. Muthukumar from University of Madras facilitated the workshop and trained the children to prepare their Journal. We look forward to seeing the children's newsletter.
